Education for BMU officers

Together with our local partner Maji Safi, we are working to provide education to fishermen’s representatives in the coastal villages of Rorya. By teaching these so-called BMU officers about schistosomiasis and having them take on an ambassadorial role, we hope to get them more involved in Schistosomiasis Outreach Shirati. This way, the fishermen and other villagers have a point of contact in the six months between outreaches, and we expect to increase confidence in the outreaches.
So far we have visited the BMU offices in Sota, Nyamagaro and Kibuyi and the response has been very positive. Prior to expanding the project to new villages, we will first seek access to the community through the BMU offices. That is why we will soon be going to the offices of Bubombi, Masonga, Kirongwe and Minigo.
