Healthy Hearts in Nyamagaro

We recently had our first major outreach of the Healthy Hearts Project in the rural part of Rorya. Our team went to the Nyamagaro Health Center, where we had asked all 45+ people in the area to come through the Community Health Workers. Upon arrival, there were already almost a hundred people waiting, and in the end we saw almost 300 participants in one day.
Of the participants, 114 had high blood pressure, 19 had diabetes and 55 were overweight. High-risk patients received free blood tests, where we found 24 cases of kidney failure (two of which were very serious) and 37 people with high cholesterol, 5 of which were very high. We wrote 167 prescriptions for medication. We continue to collaborate with and provide education to local colleagues in Nyamagaro, so that patients can receive good follow-up care in their own environment.
